Joseph Alfred Weingartner, Jr.

Joseph Alfred Weingartner, Jr., was born in Decatur, GA, at Emory University Hospital on February 9, 1930. He grew up attending Decatur Presbyterian Church. In high school, Joe enjoyed playing baseball and football. He followed up with football, playing at Presbyterian College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
After College, he went into the Army at Fort Benning and Fort Jackson. He did this for a few years, including about a year in Korea.
In 1954, he married Elaine Timms, and they had 3 wonderful children: Lynn Weingartner Clark, Bob Weingartner, and Jim Weingartner.
He stayed in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. While in the Reserves, he worked at First National Bank of Atlanta, and retired as a Senior Vice President after 35 years and an additional year when First National merged with Wachovia.
Joe and Elaine, in addition to their 3 children, had one granddaughter: Joanna Elaine Clark-McCall, and 3 amazing great-grandchildren: Brayden Lee Clark, Bentley Adam McCall, and Ava Elaine McCall.
A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 3:30 pm. The service will be live-streamed on A.S. Turner & Sons’ Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ASTurnerandSonsFuneralHome/
