William B. (Bill) Zieburtz

Born 9/22/27, Cleveland Ohio - Died 11/8/2004, Atlanta, Georgia\ William B. (Bill) Zieburtz went to be with the Lord on Monday November 8, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elgy, daughter Lynn, son Bill, daughter-in-law Dorothy, and grandchildren Katie and William. In 1947 after serving in the Coast Guard for three years, Bill went to work for Southern Bell as a lineman. He worked his early years in Florida, and installed the first mobile telephone in Miami. Among his assignments were serving as the Division Plant Manager leading 2,700 employees serving all of metropolitan Atlanta. He retired from Bell South as Operations Manager for the company's 13 state service area in 1987. He then created a telecommunications consulting company, (ZComm), to provide technical assistance to many of the regional Bell operating companies, as well as supporting AT&T on projects in Thailand and Russia. He was active in the United Way, serving as a volunteer for 18 years, and as Special Event Chair in Atlanta for 13 years. He was involved in the Peach Bowl for 30 years, beginning with its first year of operation. Bill helped to re-institute the "Peach Drop" in downtown Atlanta on New Year's Eve, and served as President of the Peach Bowl for two years. Bill was also active in the Lions Club, which he joined in the Florida Keys in 1957. He served as Chairman of the Lions Club State Convention in Florida. His service continued in Georgia as president of the Henderson Mill Lions Club and as president of the Tucker Lions Club. Bill was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts for 38 years, and served on the Atlanta Area Council Commission for 13 years. He was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church since 1969, and was active in the Businessmen's Bible Class. In 1989, he co-founded a recording ministry responsible for recording, narrating, editing, duplicating, and mailing tapes of services to members unable to attend, handling over 2,500 tapes annually. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 10th, Dr. J. Hoffman Harris officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Southern Memorial Park, Miami, FL. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
