Adele Crawford Reeves, 96, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018. The daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Crawford, MD, and Bertha (Jones) Crawford, Adele never let anyone, especially Yankees, forget that she was a “native” Atlantan, and that she attended the Gone with the Wind premiere at the Loews Grand Theater. She grew up in the Highland/Virginia neighborhood and corrected anyone who referred to it as the Virginia/Highlands. A graduate of Atlanta’s Girls High, she worked as a teletype operator at Postal Telegraph, Western Union and lastly at the Atlanta branch of the Federal Reserve Bank. While at the Federal Reserve she met and married the love of her life, James Hudson Reeves of Woodstock, GA. After a brief courtship they married and she promptly retired to become a house wife. In the 60’s they moved to the Atlanta suburbs to raise their family. And in her final years, she was a resident of Country Gardens Assisted Living in Duluth, Georgia. Adele loved DANCING, reading, and collecting cookbooks and Coca Cola memorabilia. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a regular congregant first at Church of our Savior, then St. Bartholomews, and finally at Church of the Epiphany.
In addition to her parents, Adele was preceded in death by her husband, James; her two sisters, Martha (Crawford) Richoz, and Anita (Crawford) Hay; and nephew, Tommie Hay.
Adele is survived by her only child, Anita (Reeves) Winkler and son in law, Stephen Charles Winkler; nephews, Tom Crawford of Duluth, GA, and Bobby Hubbard of Woodstock, GA; nieces, Pat (Hubbard) Pope of Marietta, GA and Jo Ellen Mock of Jonesboro, GA; and many great nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinsons Foundation, www.parkinson.org
