Mr. Alan S. J. Durant, age 67, died Monday, August 8, 2005 at Emory University Hospital. Born in Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom, he was the first child of Sidney and Winifred Durant. He graduated from Swansea University in 1963 as a Civil Engineer. He worked for 38 years at RMC Industries, both in the U.K. and U.S.A. After 19 years in the U.S.A., he retired as CEO of RMC Industries U.S.A. in 2002. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 40 years, Jackie; his sons, Anthony and Christopher, their wives, Samantha and Janice; mother, Winifred Durant; and brother, Graham and his wife Margaret. He was the beloved "Pappy" to grandchildren, Thomas, Emily and Daniel. Visitation will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons Thursday, August 11 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Clairmont Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Friday, August 12 with a reception immediately following at Druid Hills Golf Club.
