Alberta Park was the fifth of sixth children born June 6, 1922 to Dr. Seals Whitely and Mrs. Irene Dempsey Whitely of Cedartown, GA. She is the last of her siblings to pass and died February 17, 2011 peacefully at her home in Atlanta. Her father was a physician and built the first hospital in Cedartown, Georgia. She graduated from the Crawford W. Long School of Nursing and was a practicing registered nurse until adopting children in 1960. She married Thomas Burnley Park in 1955 and survived him after his passing in 1986. She belonged to Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Atlanta for over fifty years, although Miss Alberta was proud to have been a Presbyterian all of her life prior to joining the community at Oak Grove. She enjoyed belonging to several Sunday School classes at Oak Grove and served on numerous committees within the church over the years. She belonged to several local bridge and garden clubs. She is survived by a loving daughter, Olivia Rosemarie Cain, and son-in-law, Anthony Lamar Cain, of Cummings, sister-in-law, Adelia Linnemann of Alexandria, VA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Donations in her memory may be made to the Count Your Blessings fund at Oak Grove UMC. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenn Ethridge officiating followed by interment in the churchyard. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
