Alden Frederick Miller, age 87, of Norcross, Georgia, died on Sunday, May 30, 2010. He was born on November 18, 1922, in Huntington, Indiana to Meta C. and George W. Miller. He graduated from Huntington High School and entered Valparaiso University in Indiana in 1940, where he played football and was a member of Kappa Iota Pi fraternity. Following the outbreak of World War II, he interrupted his college career and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific as a Lieutenant (JG), spending time on the Islands of Majuro and Pelelieu. When the war ended, he continued service in the United States Naval Reserve until discharge. Upon his return home after the war, he returned to Valparaiso University to complete his education, graduating in 1946 with a degree in accounting. In 1947, he began a thirty year career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he worked in rural areas around the southeast, New York City, and finally the Atlanta office where he spent most of his career. Following his retirement from the FBI, he began a private industrial security business. He also worked for a number of years for the National Football League and National Basketball Association as the Atlanta security representative. Working directly with the Atlanta Falcons players and management proved to be one of his most enjoyable assignments, and he was often seen on the sidelines at summer training camp and home games. In addition to his career, Mr. Miller was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer over the past six decades. He was elected numerous times throughout the years to positions on Church Council, and also served many years on the Board of Lutheran Towers. While career and service were very important to Al, he especially loved his family and many friends, and time spent with all of them. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sarah Emily (Sally). He is survived by a daughter, Beth Ludvigsen, and her husband Arnold, of Lilburn, GA; a son, Alden F. Miller, Jr., and his wife Julia, of Winston-Salem, NC; and a son Greg Miller, and his wife Donna, of Marietta, GA. Grandchildren include Amy Ludvigsen of Lilburn, GA, Brian Ludvigsen of Atlanta, GA, Captains James and Virginia (Miller) Trimble of Bonaire, GA, LTJG Charles Miller of Corpus Christi, TX, Genevieve Miller of Winston-Salem, NC, and Krista Miller of Marietta, GA. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, June 3rd from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at A.S. Turner & Sons in Decatur. The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 4th, at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. A reception will be held Friday morning at 10 A.M. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.
