A lifelong resident of Atlanta, Alene was a graduate from Girls High and was a sponsor of Boys High School Military Corps. She attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. Married to her High School sweetheart for 61 years, Robert Henry Strickland, they traveled extensively until his death in 1994. Alene was an active member of Glenn Memorial Methodist Church for 72 years, remaining so until her death. She did beautiful, meticulous needlework, kept a lovely home, enjoyed her garden and garden club and was loved by all who knew her. Her daughter Jean Strickland Cooper and son-in-law Ted preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughter, Claire Strickland Ansley (Robert); granddaughters, Kathleen Cooper Kaiser (Bob) of Olive Branch, MS, Katherine Ansley Schirmer (Chuck) of Southern Pines, N.C., Nancy Cooper Fahrnann of Memphis, TN and Allyson Ansley Smith (Robert) of Decatur, GA; great grandchildren, Kellye Kaiser Vance (Jeremy), Katie Kaiser, Amelia and William Schirmer, Madison and Risley Smith and great great grandson, Conner Vance. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2015 in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Lang Lowrey officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.
