Alethe Vivian Anderson passed away in Atlanta, Georgia, Tuesday, July 1, 2008 due to uterine cancer. She was 90 years old. Born June 25, 1918 to Vincent and Gertrude Holm Still, in Korbel, Humboldt County, California. A graduate of Eureka High School, Class of 1936, Alethe attended Humboldt State University and graduated with a degree in business. During World War II, while an employee of PG&E, she met her soon to be husband, Lewis "Andy" Anderson, her "handsome Marine" from Mississippi, at a USO dance. Alethe retired from PG&E prior to the birth of their only child G. Keene Anderson. Alethe and Andy were happily married for forty years until Andy died unexpectedly in 1984 while they were on a cruise in New Zealand. Alethe was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, recipient of the Dr. Rob Morris Award; the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, recipient of the Miriam Award, and Drill Team member; and a member of the Order of the Amaranth. In addition she was a member of the United Methodist Women's Organization and Church. Her obligations and service in these organizations played a significant roll in her life and touched countless hearts.Among Alethe's trademarks were her gentle nature, smile, and kindness towards others. Spending time in her garden was a fulfilling hobby. Her roses and flowers were impressive. She exhibited the characteristics common to her generation; thrift, industry, and self reliance. She was a nurturer. This is her legacy.Alethe is survived by her son G. Keene and daughter-in-law Cindy Anderson of Acworth, Georgia; granddaughter Michelle her husband Steven Scileppi, and great-grandsons Jared and Aaron Scileppi of Cartersville, Georgia; and granddaughter Bethany her husband Matthew Lee, and great-grandsons Nathan and Talmage Lee of Tucker, Georgia.She also leaves behind her sister Barbara McKellar of Eureka; nephews Dennis McKellar of Fortuna, CA, Lane McKellar of San Diego, CA and their families; dozens of cousins and friends; and her treasured godson and cousin, Don Wall of Calgary, Canada.The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner and Sons followed by funeral services at Turner's chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Matthew Lee officiating. An additional funeral service will be held at the Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, CA Friday, July 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gerhard Drumm officiating where Eastern Star, White Shrine, and Amaranth rites will be given.
