Alice Armstrong Bowden

BOWDEN, Alice –



Alice Armstrong Bowden, 92, of Atlanta was born June 17, 1917 in Atlanta, Georgia to Patsy Quinney Armstrong and Klatte Rockwell Armstrong. She graduated from Washington Seminary in 1935 and married John Daniel Bowden, Jr. in 1942. Mrs. Bowden lived all over the country when her husband was in the U.S. Army Caval 0ry Corps and after the war with Scott Paper Company. They returned to Atlanta in 1956. The Bowdens were founding members of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement in Sandy Springs; Mrs. Bowden served on the Altar Guild there for more than 40 years. She was also secretary of the vestry. Mrs. Bowden was a real estate agent for more than 25 years with Northside Realty, where she was a million-dollar agent. She is survived by one son, Thomas Marshall Bowden and his wife Cindy Warden Bowden of Decatur; one daughter, Elizabeth Bowden Martin and her husband John Patrick Martin of Silver Spring, MD; and three grandchildren, Joseph Daniel Martin and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Smock Brant, Samuel Armstrong Martin, and Christina Warden Bowden. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, January 2nd at the Episcopal Church of the Atonement. The committal will follow in the church’s Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Atonement, 4945 High Point Rd., Sandy Springs, GA 30342.
