Alice King Long

Laura Alice King Long, 89, of Decatur passed away peacefully on March 16, 2016. She lived her entire life in Georgia. Born June 14, 1926, in Blakely, GA, she was one of five daughters of Henry and Cornelia King. She graduated high school in 1943 and enrolled in the Atlanta School of Commerce. Soon after, she was employed by the Southern Railway where she met and married the love of her life, William "Bill" Long, who preceded her in death. They joined First Baptist Church of Decatur in 1948. She enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing, working with the neighborhood garden club, and moreover, raising three children. In addition, she was deeply involved at Decatur First Baptist volunteering in the library and women's mission group. She was an active member of the Philathea SS class.

She is survived by her daughters Vicki Lee and her husband, Howard, and Rebecca Pool and her husband, Randy; son Jerry and his wife, Shannon; eight grandchildren: Angela Evans and her husband, Tim, Kevin Lee and his wife, Andrea, Lauren Taylor and her husband, Josh, Joshua Lee, Will Long, Chris Pool and his wife, Danielle, Trevor Pool, and Olivia Pool; six great grandchildren: Alyson and Drew Evans, Adelyn and Jackson Lee, and Lexie and Ben Taylor; and her loving sister, Barbara Clark.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be Tuesday March 22nd at 10am at Decatur First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills in Snellville, GA. Visitation will be on Monday March 21nd from 6pm-8pm at A.S. Turner and sons. Flowers or donations to Decatur First Baptist Church mission fund appreciated.
