Alice Lester Moseley Haas passed away on August 20, 2011 in Decatur, Ga. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Alice shared her love, laughter, and faith with all who knew her. Born in Eddyville, Kentucky on December 17, 1926, she grew up in a loving home with her parents, sister and three brothers. Her college experience began at Murray State then continued at Indiana University. She married her high school sweetheart Ted C. Moseley in June of 1947. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree with concentrations in English and Business, Alice became the executive secretary for a vice president at Standard Oil Co. She and Ted moved to Atlanta after Ted completed medical school. There they raised two children and enjoyed a wonderful marriage lasting 31 years until Ted’s death in 1979. Alice again worked as an executive secretary, this time for a bank vice president as she started a new life. She then met Richard Haas and they married on November 27, 1982. They enjoyed 29 nine years together during which they traveled the world and spent a lot of joyous time with friends and family. Throughout her life Alice was very active in the community. As a young mother she was involved in scouting and school events for both her children and later served as Lakeside High School Co-president with her husband Ted. She also served on the Better Films Council in order to provide moral and ethical feedback to the newly forming film rating system. Her active volunteerism continued until age 83 when she “retired” from her weekly service at the VA Hospital to which she was tirelessly devoted for many years.
Preceding her in death were her first husband Ted Moseley, son Mark Moseley, sister Jane Lester Brantley, and brother James Lester. Survivors include her husband Dick Haas, daughter Laurie Lester Scarpelli and Tony Scarpelli, daughter-in-law Joyce Rose Moseley, grandchildren Luigi Scarpelli, Salvatore Scarpelli, Andrew Moseley and Suzanne Moseley, Jennifer Moseley Shearouse and Clint Shearouse, step daughter Marilyn Hass Harkness, brother Sid Lester and Betty Lester, and brother Bill Lester and Myrna Lester.
