Allie Larue Kinley

Brigadier Allie LaRue Kieffer Kinley was born on March 6, 1912 in Dayton, Virginia and passed away in Atlanta, Georgia on October 13, 2015. She was one of four girls and one boy born to Alonza and Lula Kieffer. Her family moved to Roanoke, Virginia in the early 20's. After high school, she entered The Salvation Army Training College in Atlanta, Georgia. She served in several locations in Virginia before marrying Captain Squire James Kinley in 1942. Together, they served in several locations in West Virginia, Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, California, Tennessee, Kentucky and Maryland. They retired in 1980 and lived in Roanoke until her husband's death in 1994. Since then, she has lived with her daughter and son in law. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living Salvation Army officer in the Southern states and the second oldest in America. She was the longest serving officer in the Southern states, with 82 years of service, both active and retired.Brigadier Kinley is survived by two children, Major Lonnie James Kinley of Naugatuck, Connecticut and Major Jean Anna Lee Deuel of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent her memory to The Salvation Army, P. O. Box 693, Greenwood, MS 389835-0693 The family will begin receiving friends Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Atlanta Salvation Army Temple Corps, 2090 North Druid Hills Rd., Atlanta, GA. with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. A. S. Turner Funeral Home and Crematory.
