Alsine Maxey, age 70 of Stone Mountain, passed away peacefully on December 24th following a lengthy illness. She was a native Atlantan where she graduated from Druid Hills High School and later attended Georgia State University. Alsine loved music, movies, and demonstrated a natural talent for art during her early years. She loved all animals and regularly donated to numerous animal welfare organizations. She enjoyed being at home surrounded by her loving cats and was known for her delight in hand feeding the raccoons from nearby woods. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelley Maxey and parents, Edward T. Brown, Jr. and Alsine S. Brown of Atlanta. She is survived by her sister, Anne B. Pinney of Stone Mountain; brother, E. Tom Brown of Social Circle; and stepmother, Blair W. Brown of Stone Mountain. Other survivors include three nephews, a niece, and her companion, Mike Cooper. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 30th in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons. Entombment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to Noah’s Ark, 712 L G Griffin Road, Locust Grove, GA 30248-4317. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service at A.S. Turner and Sons.
