Alton S. Roberts, 95, passed away on October 25, 2016, at The Orchard at Tucker, a assisted living facility. He had been under Hospice Atlanta care since early June. Born in Jefferson, Jackson County, Georgia, he moved to Tucker as a young adult and resided in the Tucker/Stone Mountain area his entire adult life. From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. He retired from Georgia Power Co. in 1974 after 25 years of service in procurement for Substation Construction. Later, he retired from Lutheran Towers in Midtown Atlanta in 1987 after 10+ years as Maintenance Engineer. He was a long time member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, an avid gardener and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Sandra G. Roberts, in August 1992, and his wife of 59 years, Bernice Andrews Roberts, in February 2000. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Katherine Chesnut Smith, Tucker; his son, Walter L. Roberts, Atlanta; his daughter, Sharon Roberts Rowland, and son-in-law, John Rowland, Fort Myers, Florida; and granddaughter, Laura Rowland Wohl, her husband Ryan, his great grandson, Tyler, and great granddaughter, Elena, Lehigh Acres, Florida; and grandson Michael Rowland, Saigon, Vietnam. A Graveside Service will be conducted by The Reverend Mary Peters, Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, to be held on Friday November 4 at 11:00 am at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, NE, Atlanta, GA 30319.
