December 5, 1930 — April 7, 2025

Alvin Hoyt Blalock, a cherished resident of Decatur, GA, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in 1930 in Atlanta, GA, Hoyt lived a life defined by resilience, love, and adventure, earning the admiration and affection of all who knew him.

A survivor of the Great Depression, Hoyt showed resourcefulness and determination from an early age, selling peanuts at the old Atlanta Crackers Stadium to help support his family. As a young man, he moved to Clarkston, GA, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Peek (Bobbie). Married for over 60 years until her passing in February 2015, their bond was one of unwavering devotion. Together, they shared the joy of raising their beloved son, Andy, who tragically passed away at the age of 13 in 1966. Hoyt's strength and resilience were pillars of his family through life's challenges.

Hoyt served his country with honor during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Atlanta with his young family to build a life filled with hard work and purpose. He initially owned a full-service gas station in Clarkston, GA, before embarking on a fulfilling career as a master home builder alongside his lifelong friend, Don Bryant.

A man of many passions, Hoyt loved traveling the world with Bobbie, creating countless treasured memories. From snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef in Australia to playing golf at St. Andrews in Scotland, he embraced life's adventures with joy. Later in life, Hoyt found companionship and friendship with his second wife, Billie Hurst.

Hoyt was predeceased by his first wife, Bobbie; his son, Andy; his mother, Zula; his brother, Melt; his second spouse, Billie; his "son by love" Parker Johnson and numerous cousins and friends who enriched his life.

He is survived by his great nephew/ grandson Brett Shepherd, nieces Cindy Shepherd, Lisa Thompson, and Susan Welch (and her husband Matt) and nephew Martin Wilkie; his cousins Danny and Judith Rice, Terri and Jim Miller, and Bill Miller. Hoyt's legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends.
