Ann Battle

June 22, 1928 — July 26, 2019

Ann McMickle Battle was born to a farm family in Schley County near Ellaville in 1928, growing up with two older sisters and a younger brother.

In 1947, she married a WWII veteran returning to Ellaville, Charles T. (Buddy) Battle and embarked on a wonderful 70 years of marriage. Dancing was their favorite pastime, with an emphasis on Big Band music of the 40’s. However, she showed she could still hold her own at grandchildren’s weddings, even if it was Tupac instead of Glen Miller.

Ann will be remembered as one of the greatest caregivers any of us have known. Her daughter, Debbie, afflicted by Cerebral Palsy, lived her 33 years at home under Ann’s care, love and guidance. Buddy, almost 12 years older than her, needed a tremendous amount of care in his last years; Ann provided that, keeping him at home with her well past his 101st birthday. He lived at home with her until two weeks prior to his passing in 2017.

Ann will also be remembered by her family and her doctors as incredibly stubborn. The two years without Buddy had been very difficult for her and since March of this year, she had been hospitalized 3 times. Each time, against medical advice, she insisted on returning home, declaring she would be there as long as possible. On July 25th, her sons took her to an Assisted Living facility. On July 26th, 30 hours after arriving, she passed peacefully, seeking those she loved who had gone before.

She is survived by her sons, Charles (Ginny) and Dixon (Lisa), her grandchildren, Nathan, Emily Battle Rudderow (Thomas), Elizabeth Battle Brown (Ethan) and Connor and her great-grandson, Lawson Rudderow.

A visitation is scheduled at A.S. Turner & Sons (2773 N. Decatur Road) for Friday, August 2nd from 3-5pm.

There will be a graveside service in Ellaville on Saturday, August 3rd, at 1:30pm. No flowers please. Memorial gifts should be directed to Shallowford Presbyterian’s Youth Choir.
