Mrs. Elizabeth Daniell Richardson (Betty) of Atlanta, Georgia, age 98, passed away on December 11, 2024.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ann Richardson Owens (Gerald) of Vidalia, Georgia and Ruth Richardson Wray (David) of Monroe, Georgia, five grandchildren, Joanna Wray Austin (Stuart) of Cordele, Georgia, Rachel Wray Stein (Karl) of Woodstock, Georgia, David William Wray (Courtney) of Monroe, Georgia, Jonathan Gregg Owens of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Joshua William Owens of Atlanta, Georgia, one brother, Hugh Daniell, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, William Luther Richardson Jr, her parents, Roy Burnett Daniell Sr, and Beula Bramlett Daniell, one sister, Sally Daniell Thomas, and two brothers, Roy Daniell and Hal Daniell.
Betty was a lifetime resident of Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Washington Seminary in 1944 and Georgia State University in 1952 where she obtained a BCS Commerce degree. She later obtained an LLB from John Marshall Law School in 1954.
She has worked for the Army, VA Medical Center, and the American National Red Cross.
She began her career at Georgia Power in 1956 and retired in 1986 as a Senior Budget Analyst after 30 years of service. While at Georgia Power she served on the Board of Directors as secretary for the PowerCo Credit Union and was Citizen of the month.
Betty was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church. At Druid Hills Baptist Church she was a Sunday School teacher, Girls Auxiliary Leader and coached girls' basketball. She had over 5000 hours of volunteer service at the VA Hospital. Part of her service involved helping veterans with pro bono legal assistance. She was selected as outstanding President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Recipient of the State of Georgia Volunteer award. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, tennis (Alta & USTA) and cruising.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 1:00 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, in Decatur, GA. With a visitation held an hour prior. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
