Anna Susan Moss

June 3, 1970 — December 9, 2022

Anna Susan Moss O’Donnell 52, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Friday, December 9th, after a long, courageous fight with cancer.


Susan was born in Athens, Georgia on June 3rd, 1970. She grew up in Athens, graduating from Athens Academy with the class of 1988. After high school, she chose to pursue studies at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland where she received a degree in Biology. Her college days included new adventures of skydiving and making the crew team.


Susan returned to Georgia to study at Emory University where she received a Masters’ degree in Public Health. While at Emory, she was pleased to receive the Charles Shepard award for the most scholarly thesis. After Emory, she began work as a consultant with the CDC which included a year in Uganda leading the analysis of long-term studies of antiviral treatment of HIV.


She married her college sweetheart Shaun O’Donnell, and later welcomed the arrival of two beautiful sons. Susan lived a full life enjoying many adventures with her family: gardening, skiing, scouting, composting, and traveling. She also enjoyed running and completed a dozen marathons around the country. Most recently, she founded the Sherrydale Community Land Trust, a 3.5 acre parcel of urban forest in DeKalb county with the aim to restore a polluted stream and neglected woodlands to make a natural resource space for the families of the surrounding community.


Susan is survived by her husband, Shaun Patrick O’Donnell and two sons, Hugh Patrick O’Donnell and Henry William O’Donnell; her parents, Jo Anne and Lorenzo Moss II; and her sister Marguerite Morrell (Steve) and nephews Louis and Christopher; and her in-laws Neil and Maire O’Donnell. Susan was preceded in death by her brother William. There will be a private service for immediate family members only.
