Anne Jackson Johnson died peacefully on September 8, 2021 at the age of 96. She was born on a farm in Montezuma, Georgia the youngest of 5 children, the darling of all. She loved going fishing, picking watermelon and grinding sugarcane. Anne lived through the Depression but her life was good and says she never knew it was going on. She told stories about listening to President Roosevelt declare war, hearing of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on the radio, and her favorite musician was Tommy Dorsey. Anne was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women. She moved to the big city (Atlanta) in 1945 to start her career in banking, first working at the Federal Reserve Bank for 15 years and later in the Lockbox Department at C&S Bank. She met Jim (Jimsie) Johnson in 1954 when he gave her and a friend a ride home from work, and they married in 1956. She and Jimsie bought and renovated a house in Decatur where she lived for over 60 years raising 3 children, Mildred, Amy and Jim. She was very active in the community and in their lives, helping in the PTA, school carnivals, Girl Scouts, and ball games. She was involved in her neighborhood garden club and was very active in Senior ministry at Scott Boulevard Baptist Church. She was still visiting the seniors regularly, going to the grocery store and delivering food and supplies when she was well into her 90s. Anne’s (AKA Mammy) grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her life well-lived was evidenced by the ever-constant love, care and concern of her children during the health challenges of her last years.
Anne was predeceased by her husband Jim. She leaves behind children Mildred and Darrell Thompson, Amy and Greg Taylor, Jim and Mary Johnson and granddaughters Rachel (Tim and great-granddaughter Taylor Jane) Ashworth; Kelsey (Sam and great-granddaughter Ellie) Lisicia; and Alli (Max) Brandon, and her best friend, Beau.
