Annis Westbrook Mccorkle

Mrs. Annis Westbrook McCorkle, 90, a loving wife, mother and grandmother of Decatur, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005. She was born in Buford, Georgia, on January 14, 1915, the daughter of William Hudson Westbrook and Laura Jane Black Westbrook. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Marion McCorkle, Sr.; children, James M. McCorkle, Jr. of Stone Mountain, Anne M. Joyner and her husband, Greg of Peachtree City, Jan M. Espy and her husband, Bob of Stone Mountain; six grandchildren, Lisa DeCelles and her husband, Steve, James C. McCorkle, David Luke and his wife Jenny, Bryan Joyner, John Joyner and Robert W. Espy IV; two great grandchildren, Ariel Luke and Kennedy Luke. She had one surviving sister, Gladys W. Knox of Asheville, N.C. Preceding her in death are four sisters, Clara Bess Pass, Willie Jo Cheeley, Johnnie W. Attaway and Bronnie W. Funderberg; one brother, Cecil Westbrook; and two half brothers, Cliff Sears and Fred Sears. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Mrs. McCorkle was educated in the public schools of Buford, attended Young Harris College, Georgia State University and the University of Georgia. Prior to her marriage, she taught in the public schools of Gwinnett County and in Braselton. She joined the Decatur First Baptist Church in 1941, where she became active in children's work. She taught kindergarten and Sunday school and later served as the Director of the Child Development Center until her retirement. Mrs. McCorkle served on many different church committees and was a member of the Adelphia Sunday School Class. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Decatur First Baptist Church at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to First School, Decatur First Baptist Church, 308 Clairemont Ave., Decatur, Ga. 30030. Interment will be in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 1, 2005 from 6 to 8 pm at A. S. Turner & Sons.
