Arthur Warner Bishop, age 97, passed away in his sleep at home on July 26, 2015. He was born in Ashburn, GA, the fifth of six sons born to Cloud Hampton and Mattie Florence (Green) Bishop on June 13, 1918. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers C. H. (Zella), Edwin (Marjorie), Eustace (Mary Alice), Lanier (Kathy) and Stanley (Jean), and his son Tom. The family moved to Decatur in the 1930s where he was President of his Senior Class at Decatur High in 1936. He left Emory University to join the war effort and served as a sergeant in the Pacific theater with the Army Air Corps. After the war, he worked in the banking industry before becoming an insurance agent. He rose to the position of President of Haas & Dodd and served a term as President of the state association of independent agents. He was active in his community, serving as Mayor of Decatur and President of the Decatur Kiwanis Club and worked with the youth at his church. He was also a member of Atlanta Rotary. Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ann (Braun), his son Dennis (Bonnie), daughter Anita Evans, and daughter-in-law, Wendy, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Decatur First United Methodist Church, where he worshiped for over 75 years, on Thursday, July 30 at 2:30 PM.
