Mrs. Atha Mae McDonald Rhodes, age 83, of Lithonia died Sunday, April 11, 2010.
She was born in Louisville, KY on April 25, 1926 to Thomas and Anna McDonald, Sr. Atha graduated from Shawnee Girl’s High School in Louisville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dolly McDonald Peek. Atha is survived by her husband, Glenn Parker Rhodes; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Glenn Rogers; sons and daughters-in-law, Dane and Susan Rhodes, Bruce and Carole Rhodes; brother, Thomas E. McDonald, Jr. of Louisville, KY; and nieces and nephews. She was a devout Christian and a cradle Episcopalian. Atha was a charter member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church which was founded in 1954. She was actively involved in the life of the church having served in many capacities including Jr. and Sr. Warden of the Vestry, Sunday School Superintendent and choir. Her true love was teaching children’s Sunday School and training acolytes. A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 15th with Father Brian Jemmott officiating and assisted by Father Jeffery Cave and Father Dennis Smart.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church Building Fund, 2005 South Columbia Pl., Decatur, GA 30032. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
