Audrey Jacoby Hensley was born in Atlanta, Georgia in February 1914 to Epsie Bush Jacoby and Loren Homer Jacoby, and was a lifelong resident of Atlanta. She was a graduate of North Avenue Presbyterian School (now Westminster School), and attended Mercer University at Macon, Georgia. At age six she began the study of piano with Mrs. Jane Mattingly for nine years, and then with Earle Chester Smith at the Atlanta Conservatory of Music. She married James Ernest Hensley in October 1940. He preceded her in death in February 1992. Audrey was an active member of Druid Hills Baptist Church from childhood until she and her husband joined First Baptist Church, Decatur, in December 1949, where they were both active members. She was Secretary and Office Manager to Dr. William G. Whitaker, Jr. at Piedmont Hospital for twenty six years. After retirement she and her husband who retired from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Purchasing Department, enjoyed spending winters in Sebring, Florida where they owned a home, and she continued to do so for several years after his death. Audrey has been a resident of Clairmont Place since 1994 where she served on numerous committees over the years. She is survived by cousins; Dinah Hyman Waterman, Augusta, GA and Gwen Hyman Rubio, Versailles, KY, dear friends Maye Walker and her family of Tallahassee, FL. and Joyce Garmon of Decatur, GA. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 3:00pm at the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, GA with Dr. Peter Rhea Jones officiating, interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, GA. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, Decatur, GA. A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
