August Koehler Head

December 30, 1938 — September 26, 2013

August Koehler Head, known by family and friends as K and Gus, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Gentiva Emory Hospice following a long battle with dementia. He was born at Emory University, GA on December 30, 1938, the first of three children born to Dorothy Brooks Head and August Koehler Head. K grew up in Decatur GA, and attended the last class of Decatur Boys High. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1956. He attended Auburn University, University of GA Christian College where he became a licensed minister serving two churches. He graduated from University of California, Los Angeles, Cum Laude with a degree in motion picture and TV advertising. He was an active member of the First Christian Church Decatur, GA. He served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. Following discharge, he worked at Film Counselors Inc. in New York City, NY. Mr. Head spent almost 25 years working in San Jose, California, and was responsible for many commercial projects. Upon retirement, he returned to Georgia where he became active in church and family activities. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Head Laycock of Tucker, GA and Rockport, ME, Emory Douglas Head of Dacula, GA, and half-brother Robert Brooks Powell and wife Margie of Tucker, GA. Nieces, Connie Powell Sealy of Macon, GA, Nancy Powell of Conyers, GA and Megan Head Watkins of Dacula, GA and nephews, Stephen Sengupta and wife, Inu of Woodstock, GA, Brandon Head of Dacula, GA and Christian Heath Laycock and his wife, Kelly of Kennesaw, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Brooks Perrine and step father, George Perrine. Visitation will be held at A S Turner and Sons in Decatur, GA Friday October 11, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service and reception will be held at the First Christian Church in Decatur GA at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the First Christian Church, 601 W. Ponce de Leon, Decatur, GA.
