Barbara Ann Caughman Steadman passed away Monday, April 28th after a wonderful life of 89 years. She was the widow of Henry Hane Steadman of Waynesboro, GA, a former executive of John H Harland Company. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1998. Barbara was born on October 27, 1924 in Rajahmundry, India of Lutheran missionary parents. Her family returned to the United States when Barbara was five. She lived her early years in Rock Hill, Prosperity and Cameron South Carolina. She graduated from Cameron High School and Newberry College where she received voice training. Barbara sang with the Newberry College Singers and with the Columbia Choral Society. She was a soloist with both groups and later with church choirs for most of her adult life. She was most recently a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Decatur. Barbara and Hane moved to Avondale Estates in 1964 where she resided until the end of her life. Barbara received her master's in Library Science from Emory University and was employed as the head Librarian of Avondale High School from 1971 to 1984. She was member of the Avon Garden Club, Avondale Women's Club, an avid bridge player and a passionate reader. Barbara is survived by her three children; Henry Hane Steadman Jr, Barbara Ann Steadman Hajduk and Lyda Russell Steadman, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her brother Carl Russell Caughman. A graveside service will be held at Decatur cemetery at 11:00 am, Saturday May 3, 2014. Visitation is from 4:00pm - 7:00pm, Friday May 2, 2014 at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, GA.
