Barbara Garland Martin, 58, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away in the evening of Thursday, March 24, 2011. She is originally from Baton Rouge, La., and attended Pacelli Catholic High School in Columbus, Ga. She graduated from Georgia State University and went on to pursue a career in pediatric physical therapy. She was the co-owner of Associated Therapies, Inc. She has helped build strength in the muscles of disabled children all over metro Atlanta for over 30 years. Barbara was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for over 25 years and her four children, Elizabeth, 24, Joanna, 22, Emily, 21, and Robbie, 17, attended school there as well. Barbara has served on the Country Squire Women's Club committee for years and it is due in part to her that our streets are lined with beautiful luminaries each holiday season. Survived by her father, Albert Garland of Columbus, Ga.; her husband, Bob Martin of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters Elizabeth, Joanna and Emily of Atlanta, Ga.; her son Robbie of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters Anne Murray of Baton Rouge, LA. and Sue Anderson of El Paso, TX.; and her brother Mark Garland of Greensboro, NC. A memorial service will be observed at 10 am on the morning of Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. All of Barbara's immediate family and some close friends will be participating in her honor.
