Barbara Jeanne Waugaman Thompson, 84, passed away peacefully at home on January 31st after a long illness while surrounded and comforted by her family. Barbara was born in Scottdale, PA, the daughter of Frances Reynolds Waugaman and Stanley .Merle Waugaman. Mrs. Thompson graduated from Agnes Scott College, was sponsor for KA Fraternity at Emory University, member of the "Lunch Bunch" for over 60 years, member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, and longtime resident of Atlanta. Barbara is past Secretary, African Violet Club of Greater Atlanta, won dozens of blue ribbons and was regionally renowned for her expertise. Surviving are children John B. Thompson, II, Mildred Frances "Millie" Thompson Stepp (Steve), James Reynolds "Jimmy" Thompson of Atlanta; Daniel Merle "Bo" Thompson (Stacie)of Dallas, TX; by four granddaughters and one grandson, who knew her lovingly as "Ham" and "Nanna"; also sister, Alta Waugaman Miller (Jerry) of TX. Her family wishes to thank the many professionals who have cared for Mrs. Thompson, especially Tenika Gardner and Tameka Barber, Hospice Atlanta, and W. Clyde Partin, her physician, neighbor and loving friend. Family members will receive visitors at The Little Chapel, Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, Thursday from 6:30-8:30 PM. Funeral services will follow there on Friday at 3:00 PM. Interment with her parents in Van Wert, Ohio. A.S. Turner and Sons, Decatur is in charge of arrangements.
