Barbara Pittman Moss

Barbara Pittman Moss of Decatur died on September 24, 2014. Barbara was born on October 12, 1934, in Villa Rica, Georgia. At the age of 11, Barbara moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where in1952 she graduated from Roosevelt High School. After high school, Barbara attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) and Georgia State University. She was a member of Theta Upsilon Sorority and was active in student government. Barbara initially pursued a career in teaching. She spent three years three years as an elementary school teacher on Clayton County, as well as working part-time in an after school program for Sheltering Arms. Barbara left teaching and spent the remainder of her professional career as a social worker. She devoted 34 years to Georgia Regional Hospital in Decatur, retiring in 1999. During her tenure at Georgia Regional Hospital, she served on the Advisory Council and also on the Board of the First Credit Union at the Hospital. Barbara was honored by an appointed by the Superintendent to help for the first EEOC for the hospital. Barbara was active in the community. She was member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. She was a member of Beta Omicron Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority of which she served as chapter president. She volunteered for a time as a buddy at the Jerusalem House. Barbara had many interests. She was a news junkie and enjoyed writing letters to the editor of the AJC concerning mental health issues. Barbara described herself as an ultra-liberal, yellow dog democrat. She loved the Atlanta Braves since 1966. Most of all, Barbara Loved spending time with her grandchildren, Lucas and Gigi Moss. Barbara is survived by her son, Jason Moss and his wife, Anna Blitz and her grandchildren Lucas and Gigi Moss of Atlanta. She is also survived by her brother, Joe Pittman and his wife Pat of Griffin, Georgia, her nephew Joey Pittman and his wife, Marni of Decatur, Georgia, her niece Jessica Campbell and her husband, Zack of Atlanta and her nephew Henry Pittman of Atlanta. She is also survived by grand nieces, Boone Pittman and Emory Campbell and grand nephews, Levi and Henry Moe Pittman, and her aunt, Sue Taylor of Villa Rica as well as several cousins who held a special place in her life. Extended family members, too numerous to list, but no less important have survived Barbara. Special friends, Margaret Martin and of Lawrenceville and Bernice Robinson of Decatur and personal assistant, Veronica Moss of Atlanta all played special roles in Barbara's life. Barbara would like to thank Marcia Sheppard and Carol Houlihan of Decatur for their support and assistance. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Barbara's cardiologist, Dr. Anthony Dorsey.
