Barbara Wurthmann Mcelrath

Barbara Wurthmann McElrath, 82, of Decatur, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 21, 2016. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on February 2, 1934. She graduated from Bishop England High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Saint Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama. She met Frank Roe McElrath while both of them worked for the American Red Cross in Columbia, South Carolina. The two married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Charleston, South Carolina on July 17, 1965. Barbara and Frank had three children, Frank Roe McElrath, Jr., Joseph Wurthmann McElrath and George Bernard McElrath.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Conley Wurthmann and Irene Leopold Wurthmann of Charleston, South Carolina, Frank Roe McElrath, Sr., her husband of 30 years, her son Frank Roe McElrath, Jr., her brothers Leroy Wurthmann and Bernard Wurthmann, and sisters Dorothy Wurthmann, Thelma Arnold and Winifred Waddell. She is survived by her sister Laurentia Wurthmann and her two sons, Joseph and George.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, April 25, 2016, at the A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home. A prayer service of the holy rosary will begin at 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 1 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date.
