Belle S. Long, a resident of Clairmont Place in Decatur, GA, died on November 19, 2009. She was born on December 1, 1923 in Abbeville, SC. Her parents were William Maxwell Smith and Alberta Montgomery Smith of Miami Beach, Florida. She is survived by her husband Hazel H. Long of Decatur, Georgia, to whom she was married for over sixty-five years. She is also survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas G. Long and William M. Long, both of Atlanta, and their wives Dr. Kimberly B. Long and Melanie M. Long, respectively. She is survived by one granddaughter, Dr. Melanie Shaw of Belleville, IL and her husband Paul Shaw. She is also survived by one grandson David M. Long of Gainesville, FL and his wife Susan Long. She is survived by four great-granddaughters: Carly Shaw and Rebekah Shaw of Belleville, IL, and Belle Frazier Long and Eva Long of Gainesville, FL. She was predeceased by one brother Dr. Joel Allen Smith, who retired from the faculty of the Rutgers University School of Law in Newark, NJ, and, subsequently, from the Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson, MS. She was a member of the Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church, Norcross, GA. She was a graduate of Erskine College in Due West, SC. The funeral will be held on Monday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, GA, the Rev. John C. Dorr, Jr. presiding. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial at Prosperity Cemetery, Chamblee, GA. A. S. Turner & Sons
