Ben T. Wiggins, age 91, of Atlanta passed away on October 13, 2012. Mr. Wiggins was born in Augusta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Redfern Wiggins, parents, Harry Wiggins and Virginia Bergman and brother, Harry Dame Wiggins. He was a World War II veteran who served in Italy and North Africa. A graduate of Spartanburg Junior College and Atlanta Law School, he began his career practicing law in Toccoa, Georgia where he served in the Georgia House of Representatives. He moved to Atlanta to serve as Executive Secretary to Gov. Marvin Griffin. He served as Chairman of the Georgia Public Service Commission and President of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners. He was an active member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church and a member of Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church. He also served on the board of the Georgia Leukemia Society, Jekyll Island Authority and Stone Mountain Authority. He was also a member of the Grid Iron Society and Atlanta Lawyers Club. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Philip (Ginger) Williams, daughter Dr. Carol Wiggins, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Matthew (Amanda) Hene and great-grandchildren Hampton and Hannah Grace Hene. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA with Rev. Melton McNeil officiating. Interment will follow at Decatur Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be paid to Piedmont Health Care Foundation. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
