Bernice Wren Jackson, age 100, passed away peacefully in her home on March 11, 2025.
She was born to Florrie Hadden Wren and Walter Calhoun Wren in Gibson, Ga. on November 24, 1924. She grew up on the family farm in Glascock County, Ga, graduating from Warrenton High School. She continued her education at Georgia State College for Women, obtaining an associate degree, then moved to Atlanta to continue with business courses at Ga State College where she met the love of her life, Charles Leland Jackson and enjoyed 59 wonderful years of marriage.
They made their home in Atlanta, where she worked for First National Bank of Atlanta for more than 25 years before she retired. In addition to her job there, her favorite pastimes were sewing and gardening. She landscaped the yard of her home, planting the shrubs and flowers herself. She had a green thumb with the variety of indoor plants that she maintained - they all thrived under her care. She also devoted many hours to making clothes for her children, including school clothes, costumes and prom dresses, and later, making and altering drapes for her children's homes. Once she retired, she and Charles were able to travel widely and took great pleasure in taking tours across the nation.
She dedicated her life to serving her church, first at West End Christian, followed by First Christian Church of Atlanta after moving to Tucker. She enjoyed decorating for special events and church occasions, especially arranging flowers, which was a great talent of hers. She was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship, serving as Treasurer until she was in her late 90s. She treasured her many friends, keeping in close contact with all of them over the years. She faithfully remembered her friends and family with cards on their birthdays and special occasions.
Spending time with those she loved and cared about brought her the most joy! She was a loving mother to her three children and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending many events including their birthday parties, sporting events, graduation ceremonies and school activities. Her strong work ethic and zest for life left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jackson, her parents, three brothers: Euell Wren, Allen Wren, and Walter C Wren, Jr. and three sisters: Klonnie Lewis, Catherine Wren, and Mildred Raley. Survivors include her daughters: Bonnie Deal (Ron) and Jenni Fleming (Danny) and her son Jeffry Jackson (Connie), also six grandchildren: Ronnie Deal, Jr (Suzanne), Allen Deal (Marcelle), Melanie Deal Hale, Scott Fleming (Elissa), Amy Fleming Daniel (Sam), and Charles G Jackson as well as twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
The family is especially thankful to Enid, Marjorie, and Joyce, whose love and devotion provided comfort and care in the last months of her life.
