Bertha Dimmock McKenzie joined her husband of sixty years, William Grady McKenzie in the presence of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 17, 2009. She was born in Carrollton, GA, to Thomas W. and Mattie Martin Dimmock on February 24, 1922. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean M. and Howard T. Harris of Marietta, GA, and Joan M. and James O. Adams of Jasper, GA; two step-grandchildren, Chris Adams of Rosenberg, TX, and Wendy Adams, a step-great-granddaughter, Heather Adams, and a step-great-great-grandson, Mason William Adams, of Marion, OH. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. McKenzie moved to Decatur, GA in 1947, and spent her life there volunteering in her daughters' schools, serving her church, Decatur First Baptist, and active in her community. She was a member of the Eastern Star, The Needles neighborhood sewing group, The Pythagoras Sunday School Class at Decatur First Baptist Church, and the Women's Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Convention. Mrs. McKenzie retired from Emory University where she served as secretary/bookkeeper to the Assistant Comptroller General for 20 years. She enjoyed growing and arranging flowers, cake decorating, tailoring, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, and traveling with the Decatur First Baptist Young At Heart. The family will receive friends and family at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 20th. The service to celebrate her life will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 21st, with Dr. Peter Rhea Jones officiating. Interment will be at Abilene Baptist Church in Carrollton, GA at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thurman Henderson officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to Decatur First Baptist Church Building Fund, Decatur, GA, The Alzheimer's Association, or Woodlands Garden. A. S.
