Mrs. Bess M. Hood, 83, of Decatur died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 after a longtime struggle with Alzheimer’s. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in music. She dedicated her life to the love and care of her family. She enjoyed the beauty of flowers and taking long drives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Bessie Pearl Means; husband, Lee R. Hood and daughter, Debbie H. Brown. She is survived by daughter, Marsha (Rene) Hood of Decatur; son-in-law, Pat Brown of Comanche, IA; grandsons, Patrick Brown of Des Moines, IA, Peter Brown of Comanche, IA; granddaughter, Katie B. Guisinger and her husband Kevin of Des Moines, IA; great grandson, Kyle Guisinger of Des Moines, IA; and longtime family friend, Gwen Waters. She will truly be missed. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 2p.m. Saturday, May 15, with Dr. Frank H. Crumpler officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Hood’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, NE, Atlanta, GA 30345-3315. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
