Betty Agnes Thompson

Betty Thompson was 71 years young. She passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Born May 10, 1947, in Bremen, GA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Fletcher Thompson and Vesta Oleta Johnson Thompson. Betty was very involved in her community and poured love into everyone she met. She served on the Board of Directors of local non-profit Citizen Advocacy of Atlanta and DeKalb. She was an artist and small business owner, illustrating greeting cards and collaborating with other artists to create greeting cards she later sold at festivals and at shops around Oakhurst and Decatur. She gave speeches and presentations around the state teaching people how to treat people with disabilities. She was a mentor for Georgia State University's Georgia LEND Program. She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church for more than 60 years and sang in the Gospel Choir. Betty made friends easily and always had a lot of them. She blessed every person she met, helped shape each person she knew into the best version of themselves, and made the world a better place.

Betty is survived by her sister, Carol Miller and her husband, Bart; brothers, Randy Thompson and his wife, Betsy, and Wayne Thompson and his wife, Cathy; three nephews, John Miller, Bartley Miller, and Mitchell Thompson; niece, Elizabeth Tucker; and many more loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 11, 2019, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, Decatur, with Reverend Lanny Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
