On Friday, August 26, Betty Boyd Perry, a beloved wife, and mother of two, passed away. She was 90 and would’ve been 91 in November. Betty is survived by her two sons and their wives, five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Betty graduated from the University of Georgia and then married John Oliver Perry, Jr. After moving to the Atlanta area John’s dream of opening a pet shop came to tuition. Due to unfortunate circumstances Betty had to give up her teaching career to run their pet shop which was located in Smyrna, Georgia. Soon after this the family moved to the area and for the next 30+ years Betty ran their pet shop.
After retiring and the loss of John, Betty moved back to our childhood home in Statham, Georgia. Once back on the small farm Betty spent hours planting flowers, blueberry bushes, apple trees, peach trees, blackberry bushes, building an arbor, installing split rail fencing, building a stone fire pit, and much more. Betty always stayed busy. With time moving on Betty eventually had to move to a senior living home and then to an assisted living home. For the last year of her life, she lived with her son Trip and his wife Carol in Cumming, Georgia.
Betty ‘s memorial service will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home (404-292-1551) on October 8 at 10:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Betty loves plants and flowers; floral donations may be sent to A.S. Turner or for a monetary donation this can be sent to your local botanical garden organization in her name.
