Betty Casey Cain

December 26, 1926 — February 9, 2018

Rachel Elizabeth Casey Cain passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at the age of 91. Elizabeth, or Betty as so many knew her, was born in Atlanta, GA on December 26, 1926. She was one of six children whose family lived in Acworth, GA where her father worked for the Southern Railroad and she attended and graduated from Acworth High School. During World War II, Betty worked as a Bell Bomber Girl at the Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA. At the age of 19, she moved to Atlanta and began work at AT&T in the accounting department. At AT&T she met and married her husband of 68 years, E. Clay Cain. Betty’ career in retail spanned 25 years. She was one of the first employees of the department store, Davison’s, at Northlake Mall when the mall opened in 1971. At Lenox Square, Betty was the first bridal consultant for Macy’s serving hundreds of brides and their families. She received numerous sales awards and commendations for her outstanding customer service. A member of Shallowford Presbyterian Church, Betty volunteered in the nurseries and for high school youth retreats.

Betty is survived by son, David C. Cain, Gainesville, GA and wife Helen G. Cain, son Jeffrey A. Cain Sr., Commerce, GA and wife, Trina Cowart Cain, daughter, Julie Cain Burkhard, Decatur, GA and husband Donald L. Burkhard, grandchildren Amy E. Lucas, Alpharetta, GA, Rachel C. Fursa, Braselton, GA, Elizabeth M. Burkhard, Washington DC, Katherine C. Sopp, Atlanta, GA, Jeffrey A. (Bo) Cain Jr., Commerce, GA and Ella Grace Cain, Commerce, GA and great grandchildren Gavin and Avery Fursa, Sebastian, Abigail, Elliot, and Nora Lucas, Bennett Sopp, sister Martha Casey Rampley, Acworth, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 16, 6-8 pm, at A. S. Turner Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 11 am at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Christopher Henry officiating.

Donations can be made to Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton, SC.
