Betty Cook Skelton, 83, of Decatur, was a faithful Christian and went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2012. She was a 1947 graduate of S. W. DeKalb High School and later attended Marsh Business College. After college, she had a long career with AT&T that ended with retirement in 1984 after over 30 years of service. Mrs. Skelton was a long time member of Chapel Heights Baptist Church and Metro Baptist Church, both in the South Dekalb area of Decatur. Most recently, she was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Stockbridge. Her friendships from the Joy Class at Chapel Heights spanned many decades, many churches and many miles. A loving wife, mother, sister and aunt, Mrs. Skelton will be missed greatly by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, C. W. "Billy" Skelton, her sisters, Lucy Breedlove, Enid Payne and Mary Freeman, and a brother, Dewey Cook. Mrs. Skelton is survived by her daughter, Jane Skelton; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Bill Lewis; brother and sister-in-law, C. L. and Joyce Cook; sister-in-law, Jean Goodson; brother-in-law, Wesley Skelton; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Betty Cook Skelton will be held 12:30 PM, Saturday, September 1, 2012, in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, with Rev. Tim Lewis and Rev. Bob Halstead officiating. Interment, Resthaven Gardens of Memory. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 4010 Hwy 138 SW, Stockbridge GA 30281. The family will receive friends 4-8 Friday evening at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
