Betty Mayer Lee

Betty Mayer Lee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27th. She was born Betty Jean Lineberger on September 4, 1927 in Gastonia, N.C. to Eula Duffee and John T. Lineberger. She graduated high school in Charlotte, NC in 1945 and graduated from Wake Forest in 1949. She taught school in Charlotte, NC, then at Morningside Elementary School in Atlanta. She married George E. Mayer of Decatur in 1953, and they had five children. Betty and her family were active at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, and she was librarian at the church from 1967 to 1977. She obtained a Masters Degree from Georgia State University in 1977, then worked as a media specialist at Kelly Lake Elementary and Stoneview Elementary in DeKalb County. She was widowed in 1981. Betty married Bobby R. Terry in March 1989 and split time living on Lake Lanier and in Decatur. She was widowed again in 1996. Betty married John Dan Lee in October 2004 and they lived in Tucker. Betty was a loving mother and wife, and enjoyed her life to the fullest. She played the piano, square danced, played bridge and cherished time she spent at her cabin at Lake Burton. She is survived by her husband, Dan Lee, her five children, Steve Mayer (Judy), Rusty Mayer (Marie), David Mayer, Leslie White, and Jeannie Lippy (Dennis), eleven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by Bobbie Terry's son and his family and by Dan Lee's five children and their families. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to First Baptist Church of Decatur designated for either Boy Scout Troop 134 or for the Church library. Her services will be held on Saturday August 30th at 11:00 am in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons with interment in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friend from 9:30 am to service time at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
