Betty Lorraine Norton, 97, passed away on October 18, 2024, in Decatur, Ga. Betty Norton was born on January 22, 1927, in Decatur, Ga., to Royce and Mamie England. Betty graduated from Clarkston High school in 1944.
She married Tom Norton Jr. on January 17, 1948, in Covington, Ga. They had two children, Linda Norton Dove and Thomas (Tommy) Matthew Norton III. Betty met Tom Matthew Norton Jr. while walking up Stone Mountain. They had wonderful times Square Dancing at the foot of the mountain.
Betty started her career with Southern Bell Telephone Company in Downtown Atlanta, where she worked for many years in the engineering department. Betty also worked in a family business as a bookkeeper.
Betty was very involved in her church, Briarcliff Baptist Church, and over the years she volunteered in many areas of the church. She also loved playing bridge and tennis. She was a member of the Alta Tennis League at Druid Hills Country Club where she played tennis until she was 79 years old. For the last several years of her life, she resided at Kingsbridge Retirement Community.
Betty is preceded in death by Tom Norton Jr, her spouse; Royce England, her father; Mamie England, her mother and Doris Stewart, her sister.
Betty is survived by her daughter Linda Norton Dove (Bob), who reside in Lakemont, Ga and Tommy Norton III (Barbara), who reside in Good Hope, Ga. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Betty Lorraine Keen, of Gainesville, Ga., Thomas Matthew Norton IV (Ruby), of Cayman Islands; Dorothy Virginia Dove, of Knoxville, Tenn; Jeffrey Royce Norton (Sabrina) of Social Circle Ga. Great Grandchildren Ava Davis, Jackson Keene, Isabella Norton, Blakely Norton, and a baby girl due in January.
The service for Betty Norton will be held on Monday, 11:00 AM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory.
Visitation: Sunday, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory.
Burial: Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, GA.
