Betty Rue Shepherd

Betty Lawrence Shepherd (known as Granny by all who knew and loved her) of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away at the age of 83 on Jun 22, 2011. She was born June 23, 1927, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Sterling and Unola Lawrence. She attended LaFayette High School and furthered her education at Milligan College in Tennessee, where she met her future husband, Carl N. Shepherd, Jr. They were married on June 1, 1948, in Lexington at Broadway Christian Church. Mrs. Shepherd retired from DeKalb Federal Savings and Loan after many years of faithful service. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl, her grandson Jonathan Shepherd, and her brothers Jack and David Lawrence. Granny is survived by and will be greatly missed by her son, David, and his wife Carolyn; her son, Carl, and his wife Barbara; grandchildren, Jean Shepherd Brown, Lauren Shepherd Little and Michael Shepherd. A memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, July 9, 2011, in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Mr. Jon Skoglund officiating. The family will receive friends 1-2 PM prior to the service at A. S. Turner & Sons.
