Mrs. Billie Haynes Allen, age 87, of Gainesville, GA, formerly of Atlanta, passed away at a private facility on Monday, July 12, 2004 after an extended illness. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn Bentley Haynes and William Edward Haynes, Atlanta; her husband of sixty years, James Frederic Allen, Atlanta; and her sister, May Haynes Bennett, Miami. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela Allen Stanley and Robert H. Stanley, Gainesville; grand-daughter and husband, Haynes Stanley Kaufman and Patrick C. Kaufman, St. Simons Island; two great-grandsons, Carr and Gus Kaufman; and a niece, Judith Bennett coulter, West Sacramento, CA. Mrs. Allen, a native Atlantan, was born on October 27, 1916. She resided in Atlanta until her move to Gainesville in 2001. She was a recognized designer and artist. Mrs. Allen designed caskets for Atlanta Metallic Casket Co., where she also served as an executive officer. Her career spanned over 30 years before her retirement in 1966. After her retirement, she was an award-winning china painter and instructor. She was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher.  The Allens owned the Colonnade Restaurant in Atlanta for a number of years. The graveside service and interment will take place on Thursday, July 15th at 11 a.m. at Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, GA. Dr. J. Hoffman Harris will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who so desire make memorial gifts to the Autism Society of America, 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Suite 300, Bethesda, MD 20814-3067 in memory of Mrs. Allen and in honor of Master Carr Kaufman. Arrangements are being handled by A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA.
