Bobby Coy Nelson

Bobby Coy Nelson died peacefully on Tuesday November 1, 2011 of Parkinson's Disease at Atlanta Hospice surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was 77, born in Neshoba County, Mississippi on July 27, 1934 to Chester and Rachel Nelson. Bob grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and attended LSU. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1978 with tours around the world including Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, and Italy. After a 20 year career as a Naval Aviator, gaining recognition for exemplary performance, he retired in Pensacola, FL. A gentle, unassuming man, he defined his life by his family, of whom he was incredibly proud. Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat Lawley Nelson; daughter Melanie and son-in-law Russell Weeks; daughter Leslie and son-in-law Scott Inman; grandsons Callen Inman and Graeme Weeks and granddaughter Jackie Inman, all of Atlanta; and sisters Evelyn Smith and WiIlene Mire of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Bob was predeceased by his brother Don Nelson. Bob touched many people with his kindness and generosity. He will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Burial will take place in Georgia National Cemetery with military honors at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2011. A. S. Turner and Sons.
