Bobby Joe Carroll

Bobby Joe Carroll, age 84, of Decatur passed away in his sleep on August 20, 2021. Bobby was healthy and sharp and did not suffer for which we are grateful.

He was born on February 2, 1937 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was the son of Benjamin and Eunice Carroll. Bobby graduated from Hattiesburg High School and the University of Southern Mississippi. It was there that he met his wife and soulmate of 58 years, Sylvia Ann Carroll, who preceded him in death just eight months ago. He loved his wife with his whole heart and missed her dearly. It is a comfort to know that they are together now in the presence of their savior.

Bobby was formerly a laboratory manager with the Environmental Protection Agency in Athen, Georgia and retired with 32 years of service. He was also an active member at Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. Bobby faithfully served in whatever church he attended, from the deacon board to the nursery. Bobby changed many, many diapers over the years and excelled at distracting those babies until their moms came to the rescue. He was a man of great faith and dirty sleeves.

He is survived by his sons, Joseph R. Carroll (Elizabeth), of Atlanta, Georgia and Christopher W. Carroll (Leigh), of Gatesville, TX, his sister, Sylvia J. Teasley (William), of Canton, Georgia, and his four grandchildren, Alexander, Claudia, Will and Jack. Bobby was a great dad and his sons loved him beyond measure. He took great pleasure hearing everything about their lives and the lives of their families. He knew when one of the grandkids had a game or a meet, how his son's jobs were going, what was going on with his daughters-in-law, even the pets, and he remembered all of it. He might have had a Family Accomplishment List. He really liked lists. We are going to miss him more than words can say, but we are incredibly thankful for his life and his impact on ours.

An Inurnment service will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 12:15 PM at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 10:00 - 12:00 at the funeral home prior to the Inurnment service. Memorials may be made to Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 Lavista Road, Decatur, GA 30033 in memory of Bobby Joe Carroll. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
