Brenda Cobb, age 73, died peacefully at Hospice Atlanta after a ten year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Meridian, MS in 1941. She attended Meridian High School and graduated from "The W", Mississippi State College for Women in 1959. On July 29, 1960 she married James E. Cobb began a marriage of 53 years. Later she began working at Fernbank Elementary School in Atlanta, GA. In 1981 Brenda, James and their daughter Julie became the owner's of The Seventeen Steps, a gift shop in Decatur, GA. Later Brenda's other daughter Susan joined the family operation of the gift shop; and together they made the shop a Decatur landmark. Brenda enjoyed playing ALTA tennis doubles with James and her friends. She loved to travel and became a gourmet cook. She will be remembered for her wonderful meals and entertaining. Brenda was very artistic and enjoyed decorating her home and gardens. Her favorite city to visit was Paris, and she enjoyed traveling there with her daughters Julie and Susan and her other close friends. She was an avid reader, and her family always joked that she it seemed that she wanted to read every book at her favorite library, the Toco Hill Branch of the DeKalb County Library System. Brenda will be missed by her family and her many friends whose lives she enlivened over the years. She will be remembered for her elegance and extraordinary wit. She is survived by her husband, James E. Cobb; daughter Julie Cobb and her husband Edward O'Connor of Decatur; daughter Susan Cobb Fleischman and her husband Scott of Druid Hills; son Michael Cobb and his wife April of Tucker; and two grandchildren, Carson and Christopher Fleischman. Brenda also has a brother and sister in Meridian, MS, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and a great nephew. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Brenda's memory to the Toco Hill-A.G. Williams Library through the DeKalb Library Foundation, www.dekalblibrary.org/foundation. Brenda's family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at A.S.
