Buford Mack Scogin, Sr.

Buford Mack Scogin, Sr. of Avondale Estates, GA. died Sunday, February 12, 2012, just three weeks short of his 100th birthday. Mr. Scogin was born in Luthersville, GA on March 5, 1912. He moved to Atlanta as a young child and lived all of his adult life in Decatur and Avondale Estates, GA. He retired from Rich's Department Store. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates, GA where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was an avid golfer, gardener and carpenter. Mr. Scogin was the son of Incy Elizabeth and William W. Scogin, and brother of the late Wilson Scogin, Linton Scogin, Cecil Scogin, Lillian Philips and Lucille Cagle. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen Ford Scogin. Mr. Scogin is survived by a son, Mack Scogin and wife, Merrill Elam of Atlanta, GA.; daughter, Betty Scogin Driggers and husband, Don Driggers of Dawsonville, GA; grandchildren, Valerie Edgerton of Dallas, TX., Michael Scogin and wife, Liz Welchman of New York City, Dr. Clark Driggers and wife, Angela of Port Orange, FL, Clayton Driggers and wife, Chesa of Greenville, SC; great grandchildren, Matthew and Shannon Brown of Dallas, TX, Ben and Alice Scogin of NYC, Bailey and McClendon Driggers of Port Orange, FL, and Makenna and Alyssa Driggers of Greenville, SC; sister, Elizabeth Gibson of Cumming, GA; nephew, Dr. Ford Lallerstedt and wife, Brenda Boozer of NYC and Palm Beach, FL; loving friend and caregiver, Juanita Vasquez; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates, GA. Interment will follow at Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements by A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
