Mr. Burl V. Rowan, 84, of Atlanta died Sunday, October 17, 2010. He was a World War II veteran seeing action in the Philippines, Japan and Germany. After the war he taught ROTC at Emory University in the early 50's. Mr. Rowan retired from DeKalb County School System where he taught Business Education. He was a member and Deacon of Clairmont Hills Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Rowan; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ken Parker of Clayton; son, David L. Rowan of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Matt Parker and Taylor Parker; sisters, Oweida Ivemeyer, Reba Johnson, Joyce Mathis, Diane Bigler; and brothers, Bobby Rowan and Randy Rowan. Funeral services will be held at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 20th with Rev. Fred Pitts Officiating. Mr. Rowan will lie in state beginning at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
