Byron Howell Pittman

Byron Howell Pittman passed away on May 12, 2021, surround by members of his loving family. He was 60 years young.

Byron was born in Savannah, Georgia, on September 13, 1960, and is the son of Peggy Helen Duckworth and the late Hugh Howell Pittman. Virgil Duckworth is Byron’s step-father and the man he calls Dad. Byron is the husband of Steven D Brooks, the younger brother of Gregory Hugh Pittman and the older brother of Susan Pittman McMillan, Derrick Virgil Duckworth and Christi Pittman Pickett. He grew up in Toombs County and Tattnall County and graduated at the top of his class at Reidsville High School. Byron attended Georgia Southern University and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy.

Byron moved to Atlanta in 1983, to practice his lifelong vocation of being a pharmacist, and found another family of friends, co-workers and so many people who loved him. He was a member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church where he found his passion for leading mission trips to Honduras. Byron loved to travel with family and friends and always had at least one home renovation project underway. He was a talented chef and amateur painter as well as being gifted in interior decorating and gardening.

He is survived by his husband, mother and dad and siblings. He is also survived by his nieces Kori Brown, Tiffany Morgan and Elizabeth Pittman, and his nephews Jamie McMillan, Ethan and Grayson Duckworth, and his great nieces and nephews Austin and Geneva Morgan, Eleanor Pickett and Caroline Brown and countless friends.

Two memorial services will take place, May 23, 2021, at Reidsville Baptist Church in Reidsville, Georgia and June 19, 2021, at Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Honorary pallbearers at the Saint Mark memorial service are Phil Hulst, Lin Callihan, Mickel Graham, Ken Proctor, Keith Crawford, Steve Sheppard, Rick Harrison and Kip Allen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who desire may make a donation to Saint Mark United Methodist Church (stmarkumc.org) or to the Historic Oakland Foundation (oaklandcemetery.com).
