Byron Pat Rauschenberg

September 23, 1928 — December 26, 2016

After a year-long battle with lung cancer, Byron "Tiny" Pat Rauschenberg died on December 26, 2016 at his home in Decatur, GA at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his first wife Betty Keen Rauschenberg and survived by his wife, Paula Roberts Rauschenberg; his son Michael Rauschenberg (Tyler Lory), his daughter Nancy Mullins (John), two grandchildren Zachry Mullins (Elizabeth) and Griffen Mullins, and a great granddaughter Millie Anne Mullins.
Byron was born on September 23, 1928 in Atlanta, GA to his parents A. O. "Pat" Rauschenberg and Lois Catherine Aenchbacher Rauschenberg Shupe. He grew up in East Atlanta with his sister Loretta and attended Boys High. He was the Atlanta Golden Glove Boxing Champion as a teen, and later played football at Georgia Tech. In 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He remained in active service and the U.S. Army Reserves for 40 years, earning the rank of Sergeant Major. He started his civilian career with Bell South as a lineman and worked his way up through the management ranks until his retirement in 1989 after 40 years of service.
Byron was married to Betty for 50 years and to Paula for 12 years. He loved his family and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren who they affectionately called Poppop. He was especially thrilled with the birth of his great granddaughter. His favorite activities were watching football, reading, working on model trains, and going out to dinner with Paula (and getting to know the waiters personally).
