Calvin Lee Luker, Jr., born February 4, 1928, Birmingham, Alabama, died October 19, 2017, Atlanta, Georgia of complications from Lewy Body Dementia. His parents were Calvin Lee Luker, Sr. from Clay County, Alabama, and Ora Mae Price from Pickens County, Alabama. Cal grew up on the west side of Birmingham and attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School and Phillips High School. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College. His body was donated to Emory University School of Medicine.
January 1946 he joined the Naval Air Force to be a pilot. Since the war was over he was discharged. He was later drafted into the Army for the Korean War. After basic training he transferred to the Army Audit Agency and finished his service there. He was a member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church for many years and taught an adult Sunday School class.
Cal was a sales rep for IBM for 35 years. His hobbies were fishing and enjoying the family log cabin at Lake Lanier. Many fishing trips to Florida and Alaska were enjoyed as were trips taken with his wife Carolyn and friends.
Survivors include Carolyn Luker his wife of 67 years, Mike Luker, son and wife Nancy, Lawrenceville, GA, granddaughter Valerie Luker Marlow, husband Stewart, grandson Davis and wife Sarah Kelley-Luker, and greatgrandchildren Bianca Marlow and soon to be Baby Marlow. His daughter Suzy Luker, born with Down Syndrome died at 39 in 1998.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 27, 1 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur GA; and a visitation / celebration of life at their home after the service.
